Quiz Chapter 8

As you know, this week's quiz on chapter 8 is here and due Wed by midnight. Please write a 2 page research oriented analysis of simultaneously sustaining communication climatic interludes.

APRIL FOOL'S!!!!!!!!

Hahaha!!!!!! There is no quiz--go have fun for Spring Break--Try to read a bit of chapter 9 and 10 as those are the chapters that we will cover the week after break--for this extra credit blog--post some fun plans you have for break (or crappy work plans) and connect them to the novelty/predictability dialectic from Chapter 8-- meaning we don't like too much predictability or we get bored...we need some unplanned good times BUT... too much novelty/excitement/lack of structure can be stressful and draining...where do your plans fit on this continuum? Do your friends/significant others share your balance between the two extremes? --Have fun and please be safe! Smiles--S

  1. Well during the spring break i am going to renovate my home. My husband and I watch DIY (Do It Yourself)channel a lot and we decided to redo our kitchen cabinets, sink & faucet, countertops and gas cooktop. We also plan to put hardwood floor in the living room. So I think we are somewhere in the middle. My break is planned and predictable but there is defenitly room for excitement because we are excited to see how everything is going to come together. i think its important to have balance between the two extremes because too much of anything can be bad. i am glad that my husband and I share that balance.

  2. I'm going to Santa Cruz over spring break and I plan to sit on the beach and do as close to nothing as possible. I've never gone out of town for a spring break before so it should be fun. I've been doing the same school/work routine since fall so I'm trying to do something novel. I've never been to Santa Cruz before either, so predictability is right out. My friend that is coming with me seems to share my predictable lifestyle, so we both decided not to make plans of what to do there. Happy Spring Break everybody!

  3. I'm going to be doing some cleaning around my house, and will be working out what with the beautiful weather ahead of us. So I would say I have a good plan ahead of me and it will be quite predictable. On the other hand, I want to get in as much relaxing as possible, so that has the potential of being novel. Because you never know what will happen when you're relaxing. I will also be getting started on my Dyad presentation!

  4. I am going to listen to my intervoice and relax and catch up on my tv family Young and the Restless. I can play the theme song Nadia's theme on the organ. I loved chapter 8 of what i can remember for this moment as I am up early as i am every day getting a chance a a great life. Ya I have have been thinking about the presentation but it will be here so no worries.Hey Sandra love your April fools! One thing I really liked about chapter 8 is where it talks about grace because I try to practice that every day in my life as it is today. In my past I had no grace for myself or anyone else. I was not very human acting. Thank God that has changed. I will be keeping this book after our class ends as I see so much value in it how it relates to my recovery. Last night there was something about Ekhart Tole on tv,and nope I did not watch it as I took a big math test yesterday and wanted to channel surf.Michelle P

  7. My plans for spring break include, taking care of some family business which was unexpected and some plans that were expected, I'll be working trying to get some of that skrilla (money), It will be nice to relax a little, sit back and contemplate the clouds for a while.

So to relate it to the chapter, I will be going to the same place for half of my break, which is very predictable, but doing some tasks that arent always so planned

    Have fun everyone

  8. I don't really have any plans for the Spring Break. I would love it if i could leave Sacramento for awhile but I have no reliable transportation. My boyfriend also wants to leave, mostly because he's been so many places.I've never been out of Sacramento before so it would be nice to just go anywhere. My boyfriend is dieing to take me to another city he hates it that he can't show my son and me any fun places to go out of Sacramento. My son, boyfriend and I all share the same balance of wanting to GET OUT OF SACRAMENTO.U-kyra

  9. I want to do some traveling during the Spring break. I don't know where to yet but I might go by the bay area with a friend if I can find someone to go with. This relates to novelty because I don't want to do something that is totally predictable. For me, relaxing is getting away from my normal environment and experiencing something fun and engaging. While predictability is useful for everyday life to an extent, I like novelty better because I can get more out of life.

  10. That was good one Sandra... I had to go online at school after my biology class just to try and complete the quiz. lol. Anyways for spring break the not so exiting and totally predictable plan is to work from 8am to 7pm Mon- Fri and 11am-5pm Sat and Sun but my boyfriend and I decided we need a break so we asked for a day of at work during the week and we decided to go to San Francisco. The unexpected and out of the ordenary is that we have no idea what we want to do over there. First we do go out but with my school and our jobs its hard to have a vacation but a day in the city will have to do. We want to go shopping, maybe just window shopping but what ever it is its gona be great cause I wont have to be in Davis, at work for ONE WHOLE DAY!

  11. Well I will be working during spring break. I do that 40 hours/5 days a week and it doesn't change! On the days that I would usually attend class I will be shopping!!! I need pants! I have a friend that works for GAP and she gets a 50% discount so i will be taking advantage of that discount.... ;) woot woot. I have nothing else planned but something spectacular may pop up. We shall see mang.

  12. Hi Michelle,
Yeah, cleaning can be a good stress relief...if you're in the right mood. My presentation topic is culture and it's influences on communication. Have you decided on a topic yet?

    Bharathi

MARCO (Yes, I'm playing "Marco Polo" on this thing...don't hate! I want to see how many people will actually respond to it. And, in my defense, it was Meriam's idea! =P haha)

  13. Over spring break I am going to Houston to visit my mom. She has been living there since I was 18 and I only get to see or two or three times a year. Houston is awesome. There is a lot to do there and everyone in the state drinks like a fish(besides my mom). The bbq houses are absolutly amazing, and Houston is the only place where I have eaten fried ice cream and fried alligator. Unfortunatley I have a ton of school work that I will be working on over break, but I am sure I will still have an amazing time. Jarreau Gilbert

  14. Hahaha good one, Sandra! :) I was waiting for someone to prank me all day today.

Well, I'm going to San Francisco for a couple of days. I'll just be going with my mom and my sister. I'll also be working on an essay for English 302... not looking forward to that.

    Happy Spring, everyone!

  15. darn!! I was SOOO looking forward to taking the quiz.. =O( *hopes are shot down*

For spring break, I'm going to catch up on sleep!! and enjoy the great life of being a lazy bum, but I don't have any events/outings planned. Then as the break comes to an end, I will cram like crazy for my exam on the Monday right after spring break.. boo!!.. Who knows, I may even read chapters 9 and 10 and study for my other classes, depending on my level of laziness.. (this seems very unlikely though) =OP"

so, this can be both novel and predictable at the same time.. it's a given that I am/will be lazy, but my laziness varies.. and the degree of laziness determines my plans..

  16. Only joke I actually fell for today! Ya got me.
Anyways, my plans for spring break include a mixture of both routine and novelty duties. Currently I work as a Lab tech at BloodSource. While I'm not looking forward to the normalcy (pre-planned) aspect of my job. I will be looking forward to not having to go to class after work! With this extra time I plan to improvise by going to home depot to buy some supplies i need to finish tackling our backyard. We are hoping to lay some sod down by next month. This will give me my novelty fix because it isn't necessarily planned because I have no idea where to start, and it will get me out of my normal routine of working and going to school. After working in the backyard I think I'll have to also try and catch up some sleep!

  18. Since I pretty much had an exciting week this; going to the lil' wayne concert and I must say that im still recuperating from that night. I plan on going with the flow during spring break. I am going to work 5 days during my spring break(which i do every week). I am looking forward to going to Yuba City on one of my days off to spend time with my baby brother. Other than that its going to be little things here and there trying to take it easy. I think im kinda balanced since i do plan on visiting my brother, but the rest of my time isnt completely structured.

  20. Spring Break! What Break?? I'm working and handling some family business with my honey, we are also trying to get some financial things in order, being that it's tax season. I know, I know I'm late filing, but I had alot to do these last few months or maybe it was just pure procrastination. I knew I was going to owe "Uncle Sam" some change this year, so that was probably the real reason I kept pushing it off my plate. I know if he owed me I probably would of did them without my W-2, Lol!! So I'm taking advantage of handling some things that I probably wouldn't of had time to handle with my school schedule. So it's more of a "Time Out" "No Break."

  21. This will be more of a recap. I had plans to join a few friends on a mountain trip but I had conflicting plans. The latter turned out to be really really interesting. There was a big first and a lot of funky (and funny) drama but it was a blast. Silly things just remind us that we're alive. It was time to break free from the routine I was developing. I was starting to get bored. But earlier last week I had to take a long walk to my first high school. It was relaxing (it was 11pm and I had the dog). I felt a need to touch base with the past. While things were starting getting to be static they were new. But Spring break livened things up a bit. : ) - Melina C.

  22. Over spring break I will be having my first ultrasound, which is totally new for me, and also visiting with my mom, which is not completely uncommon, but as she lives in a different state also not something I do everyday. I love visiting my mom, but the need to feel like I'm being "entertaining" either when I'm visiting someone or they are visiting me can be exhausting as I am a person who usually spends a great deal of time alone (by choice).

  23. Well I didn't really have a Spring Break. While we did not have class at city, I also go to Sac State where I did have class. So, I had no class last week at City, but I did at Sac State. I pretty much just worked and when I wasn't working I tried to lay low. I guess I am just going to have to wait for summer to have a real Spring Break. That is until summer school :(

  24. POLOOO!! =)

My Spring Break sucked as well. I had a butt load of homework to do, so I really did not get to have any fun (or not as much as I would have wanted to). But, I did get to hang out with my friends a few times as a little break from it all. Often, our plans were on the spot, but that kinda made it fun.

I hope next year's Spring Break will be better...
